UCSFRA SOMA Architectural Stroll
Thursday, September 20, 2018
10:30am - Noon
Join us for a fascinating look at developments "South of The Slot" - as old-timer San Franciscans call this part of San Francisco. (The Slot" was the iron cable car track that went through the center of Market Street.)
Our guide will discuss South of Market history - as we zigzag along the main streets and back alleys.
We'll stop to look at building facades, Yerba Buena gardens, and public art installations. Compare Classical Revival, modern, postmodern and other trends.
Highlights: the 1926 Pacific Telephone Building on New Montgomery Street, SF MOMA, the Salesforce Tower, and other ongoing construction.
Tour does not include the Palace Hotel; if you have not walked through the hotel recently, it would be a memorable conclusion to our stroll.
We will meet at the Big Blue Cube at 10:15am on the west side of the Contemporary Jewish Museum (between Market and Mission Street).
Cost: $12. (At the end of the tour, the guide may pass the famous "yellow envelope" for optional cash gratuities.)
Location:
Yerba Buena Lane, between 3rd and 4th Streets
Between Market and Mission Streets
Meet at the big blue cube at 10:15 am.
